23 heritage sites in Ladakh declared protected monuments


A cave, announced as one of the 23 historic sites across Ladakh as “Protected Monuments”

SRINAGAR: Ladakh LG, Vinai Kumar Saxena, on Thursday declared 23 heritage sites as “protected monuments” to provide legal protection to the rich archaeological, historical, and cultural heritage of the UT.The sites notified as protected monuments under the Jammu and Kashmir Ancient Monuments Preservation Act include Petroglyph Sharnos, Maitreya Buddha rock carving at Shey near Sindhu Ghat, Tingmosgang fort, Ancient Caves at Saspol, Sumoor fort, all in Leh district, and rock inscriptions at Yourbaltak in Kargil district.
