Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc crashed out of the Italian Grand Prix in dramatic fashion on Sunday.
The Moneqasque lost control of his machine at the iconic Parabolica and heavily crashed into the barriers while battling with Mclaren’s Oscar Piastri.
The crash brought out the red flag, with the race scheduled to restart at 19:09 PM IST.
It was an eventful opening couple of laps of the Italian Grand Prix as pole sitter Pierre Gasly got a great launch off the line, holding off Mercedes’ George Russell.
However, it didn’t take long for Russell to breeze past the the Frenchman, taking the lead at the first chicane on Lap 2.
There was no shortage of drama behind the front-runners either as Leclerc pushed his teammate wide Lewis Hamilton into the gravel on the first lap.
The 28-year-old then momentarily overtook Gasly before losing the place to the Frenchman and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen a few corners later.
Then came the moment of heartbreak for the capacity crowd at Ferrari’s home race.
Leclerc, winner of the race in 2019 and 2024, came under pressure from Piastri after getting overtaken by Verstappen and slipping to fourth place.
The Australian went for a daring move on the inside of the Parabolica, which forced Leclerc to take the outside line to keep his place.
The Moneqasque then lost control of his rear (as he did in 2020, a race which Gasly won) to bring a premature end to his weekend.
