Manchester United was dealt with an early injury blow in its pre-season friendly when its midfielder Mason Mount was subbed off just after 20 minutes, against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday.
The midfielder had a lengthy chat with United’s medical team while receiving treatment and was replaced by Tyler Fletcher. Mount eventually headed down the tunnel for further evaluation.
United and PSG are currently level at 1-1 with about 15 minutes left.
Mount’s injury will be another setback for the English midfielder who has struggled for fitness since moving to United from Chelsea in 2023. The 27-year-old has missed around 400 days with injuries since his arrival at Old Trafford, managing just 54 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils.
The development will also ring alarm bells for manager Michael Carrick, who is also without Manuel Ugarte (injured) and Casemiro, who left the club for free. However, two reinforcements have arrived in Manchester this summer, with Andrey Santos joining from Atlanta and Youri Tielemans moving in from Leicester City.
Last season, United finished third in the Premier League to secure a return to the UEFA Champions League after a two-year absence. This feat earned Carrick the permanent job with the Manchester outfit.
