The theatrical box office certainly seems to be showing signs of strong life this year. The big films are finding success and one of the biggest so far for 2026 –– music biopic ‘Michael’ is back on top of the charts.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua and drawing audiences despite the controversies swirling about it and its subjects, ‘Michael’ took $26 million in its fourth weekend of release.

Budget: $250,000,000

‘Michael’ has earned $283 million in North America and an impressive $703.8 million globally.

What else happened at the box office this weekend?

Elsewhere, ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ is also earning well, despite being deposed from the top spot.

The sequel earned $18 million from 3,830 venues in its third outing, a decline of 58% from the prior weekend. It has been a hit with $546.2 million in global ticket sales.

What about the new releases?

Horror movie ‘Obsession’ enjoyed the strongest start among new releases, landing in third place with $16 million, with solid reviews and good audience scores in third place.

But there was less good news for Guy Ritchie, whose new action thriller ‘In the Grey’ landed ninth with just $3 million in its opening frame. And in 10th was new indie drama ‘Is God Is’, which earned $2.2 million.
