This will be Sana’s first appearance in the WBBL and she will be available to Scorchers for the first eight matches. Cricinfo understands that her stay in the tournament will be extended if she is granted permission to skip a training camp ahead of Pakistan’s tour of the West Indies. Though the CWI is yet to officially announce the dates of the tour, it is expected to commence from the second week of December.
“I’ve watched the WBBL from Pakistan and always wondered what it would feel like to be part of this great competition,” Sana was quoted as saying in a Scorchers’ statement. “To now wear the Scorchers colours, represent such a great club and walk out at the WACA Ground in front of members and fans, while being cheered on by people back home, is incredibly special. This really is a dream come true.”
At the age of 24, Sana has evolved into one of Pakistan’s most successful woman cricketer – no one has taken more wickets or scored more runs than her this year: she has 31 wickets in 20 innings at an economy of 7.35 and has smashed 540 runs at a strike rate of 149.58.
Sana has been leading Pakistan since the 2024 women’s T20 World Cup. She had the most wickets for a fast bowler in this year’s women’s T20 World Cup with 11 strikes at an economy of 6.95. Overall, she was the second-highest wicket-taker, joint with Sophie Molineux, with N Shree Charani at the top with 14.
Scorchers begin this year’s WBBL campaign with a home fixture against Melbourne Renegades at the WACA.
