Babar Azam has returned as Pakistan’s Test captain, replacing Shan Masood, who had led the team in this format since December 2024. Babar’s first assignments back in charge will be a two-Test tour of the West Indies and then a three-Test series in England.
Pakistan selector Aaqib Javed said on Sunday while announcing the squad that Shakeel was dropped for the West Indies series owing to fitness concerns but hoped he would be able to join the squad in time for the England tour.
Mohammad Ali and Aamir Jamal have been recalled to the 16-player squad, while fast bowler Ubaid Shah – the youngest of the Shah brothers, Naseem and Hunain being the others – as well as left-arm spinner Ali Usman, who topped the wickets chart in the 2026-27 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, and Awais Zafar have earned maiden call-ups.
