India’s Quimcy Dsouza lost to Indonesia’s Sumaya in the women’s singles semifinal at the Asian Games 2026 in Teqball at the Nagoya City Higashi Sports Centre in Nagoya, Japan, on Saturday.
Sumaya advanced to the final with a three-set win, 7-12, 12-9, 12-7, assuring herself of at least a silver medal in Teqball, which is making its Asian Games debut. She will face Myanmar’s Khin Hnin Wai in the final on Sunday.
Quimcy made a fast start in the opening set, racing to an 8-2 lead. Sumaya fought back, but could not prevent the Indian from taking the opening set.
The Indonesian responded strongly in the second set, establishing an early advantage. Quimcy fought back midway through, levelling the score at 6-6 and then 8-8, but Sumaya pulled away late to level the match.
Quimcy again made a strong start in the decider, opening up a 7-3 lead. However, Sumaya produced a remarkable comeback, winning the next nine points to complete the victory and book her place in the final.
Quimcy will have one more opportunity to win a historic medal for India when she faces Yuina Sakamoto in the bronze-medal match on Sunday. In the group stage, Quimcy had beaten Sakamoto 2-1 (10-12, 12-11, 13-11) in 43 minutes.
