Toss Zimbabwe chose to bat vs South Africa
Sikandar Raza opted to make South Africa chase in the second match of a seven-game tri-series in Windhoek. In a shock result in game one, South Africa lost to Namibia by 18 runs as the home side successfully defended a score of 163 on a surface with good bounce and carry. All seven matches will be played at the same venue and conditions are expected to be similar, with warm weather expected throughout the event.
Chasing their first points, South Africa have handed out a second debut in as many games. Eathan Bosch will play his first T20I after making his ODI debut in February last year. Bosch joins Duan Jansen as the second player to be capped on this tour, and the second to have a brother who has also played for the national side. Neither Marco Jansen nor Corbin Bosch are in the squad for this series. South Africa’s batting line-up is unchanged with Dewald Brevis carded at No.3, and not No.5 as was the case on Friday.
Seamer Lutho Sipamla, who injured his left hamstring after bowling nine balls yesterday, is out of the XI as is Nqobani Mokoena. Left-arm seamer Kwena Maphaka makes his first appearance in the series.
Zimbabwe are playing their first match in the competition and have fielded their strongest XI. Brian Bennett and Ben Curran open the batting while Blessing Muzarabani will take the new ball. His usual partner Richard Ngarava did not make the trip as he deals with a back injury so Newman Nyamhuri and Brad Evans make up the seam contingent. Legspinner Graeme Cremer is back in the side after recovering from an arm injury sustained at the T20 World Cup.
Spectators in South Africa will once again face a blackout from the continent’s biggest broadcaster SuperSport who will not be airing the match. Despite this series being the precursor to the Africa Cup, coverage was disrupted and then stopped during match one and will not be attempted at all in the second game due to what the broadcaster said are “major technical issues.” The game is available on other streaming services, though most of them are not accessible in South Africa.
