The Supreme Court on Tuesday said it will constitute a committee to examine allegations of police excesses during students’ march to Parliament in July against Neet paper leak. The panel will comprise former judges, a former CBI director and a former state DGP, the court said.
The decision came while the court was hearing a batch of pleas related to the police action during the protests. The petitions have raised allegations of excessive force against students, including claims of injuries sustained during the demonstrations.
The Supreme Court said the committee would examine the material and allegations placed before it. The court also stressed the need to distinguish between students who participated peacefully in the protests and those accused of committing criminal acts.
The petitioners have sought action against police personnel accused of excesses and relief for students booked in connection with the protests. The proceedings also cover allegations relating to the treatment of women protesters during the July 20 demonstration.
