Indian skateboarders appeal to IOA for inclusion in Asian Games 2026
As the countdown begins for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan (September 19 – October 4, 2026), India’s skateboarding community has made a formal appeal to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to include skateboarding in India’s contingent.
Skateboarding, an official Asian Games medal sport since Jakarta 2018 and an Olympic sport since Tokyo 2020, is confirmed for the 2026 program alongside 32 other sports. Despite its inclusion, India did not field a team in the last two editions.
Athletes competing under the Roller Skating Federation of India (RSFI), the recognized national federation, have been training in Street and Park disciplines and have shown promise at national championships. The Asian Games represents a critical pathway for international ranking points and qualification for LA Olympics 2028.
“The talent is here, the sport is Olympic. We just need the opportunity to represent India,” said the delegation.
The community has requested the IOA, led by President Dr. P.T. Usha, to conduct transparent selection trials as per World Skate norms and extend training and travel support.
