NEW DELHI: Two people, including a retired Army jawan who was later re-employed on a contractual basis, were arrested in Assam for allegedly sharing security-related information with Pakistan, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday.Sarma said the arrests were made by Assam Police based on inputs from central agencies. “Today, as per input of central agencies, the Assam Police arrested two persons. One is a retired army jawan but currently working on a contractual basis with the army,” he said at a press conference.“It has been alleged that they were in touch with Pakistan and were giving information about army movement. We will hand them over to the central agencies,” news agency PTI quoted Sarma saying. The chief minister said initial reports suggested the two suspects were allegedly honey-trapped by individuals seeking to obtain information from them.Earlier, Assam Police said its special task force had arrested 31-year-old Abhishek Kumar Singh, a Bihar native living in Guwahati, for alleged espionage activities. Singh, who is from Purba Champaran, was suspected of sharing sensitive information about security forces with a Pakistani intelligence operative (PIO).
