The BCB’s integrity unit has charged three individuals including a former board director with breach of various provisions of the ICC anti-corruption code. The charges are from their participation in different capacities in last season’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
The recent charges are part of the BCB integrity unit’s overall investigation into the last few editions of the BPL. BCB president Tamim Iqbal has recently said that he is not willing to run the BPL in its current form.
Rahman was a BCB director from the October 6 elections, after which Aminul Islam made him audit committee chairman. Rahman stepped down from his BCB position after the investigation report was published in January.
Rahman was charged under four articles including 2.1.1 which is “fixing, contriving to fix or otherwise influencing improperly, or being a party to an agreement or effort to fix, contrive or otherwise influence improperly, the result, progress, conduct or other aspect of a Match or Matches in the BPL T-20, 12th Edition (or attempting to do so).”
Zakir Hasan, a former BCB security liaison officer and Rakibul Islam Sunny, a BCB councillor who was also in the audit committee, were among the others charged.
The BCB’s integrity unit is headed by Alex Marshall, who works with four or five investigators, while Barrister Mahin M Rahman is the unit’s general counsel.
